Scope of Practice
My clinical work is focused on providing psychological treatment to adults with emotional and behavioral difficulties. This is because my training and professional experience are primarily in adult mental health across hospital, forensic, and social settings.
Areas in which I offer treatment
- Depressive complaints: Such as persistent low mood, reduced interest or pleasure, and recurrent negative thoughts.
- Anxiety-related complaints: Including excessive and persistent worry, as well as intense fear in specific situations (e.g., in a plane).
- Anger and its regulation difficulties: When anger outbursts lead to distressing interpersonal or occupational consequences.
- Self-harm behaviors: When thoughts or actions of self-harm are used as a way to manage emotional distress.
- Other behavioral problems: Including gambling, offending-related behaviors, and substance use.
Earlier adverse experiences
In the course of psychotherapy clients may come to understand how earlier adverse experiences—for example, stressful or overwhelming events in childhood—have contributed to their current difficulties. When relevant and clinically appropriate, I am able to work with such experiences, always with careful attention to safety, pacing, and your current capacity.
Limitations of my service
To ensure responsible and ethical care, Bon Accord Psycholoog does not provide:
- Treatment for acute crisis situations, including immediate suicidal risk
- Treatment for children and adolescents
- Diagnostic assessments for developmental disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD)
- Neuropsychological assessments
- Treatment for individuals experiencing active psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations or severe delusions
If your concerns fall outside my scope of practice, or if a different level or type of care would be more appropriate, this will be discussed openly. Where possible, I will support you in considering suitable alternatives or referrals.
